You may have some questions...

Why are you running this free live writing experience Amy?

Three reasons.

1. This is a powerful process that can dramatically impact the development of our work and the opportunities we can get for it.

2. I want newbies to be able to try this process and see the impact for themselves.

3. I want to gift my returning artists a complimentary10 days of writing. This will be my 6th year offering FRESH EYES and many artists have kept coming back year after year. I don’t take this for granted.

What is free flow writing anyway?

Free flow writing (also called stream of consciousness writing) is writing for a fixed period of time, as fast as you can, without stopping and making any corrections. You may stray from the question or prompt, this doesn’t matter. Your only job is to keep writing. This process has the ability to bypass our censoring thoughts and open up new areas of enquiry. It is recommended to do this by hand. If for some reason you cannot hand write, you can type. Type fast.

Will you be recording the sessions?

The most impact will come from being at the sessions live, there is no doubt about it! However, I will be recording each session, so you catch up if needed.

Will this teach me to write an artist statement?

No, not specifically. Although what you uncover will assist with your artist statements and all sort of writing for you arts practice.

Do I have to share my writing?

No. You do not need to share your writing.

How much do I have to participate?

Most of the sessions will be spent writing in silence. After writing there is often some discussion. People can join in if they wish. This is up to you.

What if I can’t come every day?

You can catch up with the recordings and do the writing in your own time.

I’ve already done this, is it worth doing again?

I have done this process, let me think, hundreds of times. It is never ‘done’. It is certainly worth doing it again and can be huge kickstart for the new year.

Can I have my video off?

Certainly! You can even do it from your bed. I probably would if I wasn’t running this thing! :)

What do I need to bring?

A notepad or journal, preferably with unlined pages, a pen, and a backup pen, and an open mind.

I am not in Australia, can I attend?

Of course! To convert to your time zone visit https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html

I am not a ‘real artist’ can I still come?

Yes. Even if you don’t think of yourself as a fully practicing, fully fledged artist or craftsperson, you can come. All are welcome.

I have never used Zoom before, can you help me?

Make sure you have downloaded the Zoom app prior to the call, so you will be able to join smoothly https://zoom.us/

I’m not sure if this is for me…

You won’t know unless you give it a go! See below for some direct feedback from past Fresh Eyes artists.

What artists are saying…

And some more…

I have taken part in all four rounds of Amy's writing programs, each more fruitful and deeper than the last. I love the routine and discipline of writing each morning, the sense of community and camaraderie with the other makers, the insights it provides me into my and others' work, the inspiration, drive and motivation. It really is a fantastic experience which I highly recommend to other makers, whether you're comfortable with writing or not. You'll find a warm, inviting community which Amy facilitates with a deft skill and grace.

Amy mentors you through writing prompts that enable you to be free of writing outcomes, leaving space for the unknown and unexpected to come forward.

Melissa Harvey

The prompts and questions Amy curates throughout the program have been extremely helpful in understanding my work and to help me find direction. Amy’s writing programs have completely changed the way I feel about my work and my writing, and they have given me more confidence in my communication skills.

Fresh Eyes was recommended to me by a number of ceramic artists and as a maker in the early stages of my career, I find it to be a truly invaluable program.

The highlight was the routine, I was excited to get up and ready for class each day, wondering what the mornings activities would bring. It was a stimulating start to the day! Thank you for encouraging me to see with fresh eyes. This course has had quite a profound effect on my practice, the way I see and interpret what I do and has given me so much food for thought. I am so grateful to have taken part and honoured to have worked with you and the other wonderful participants.

Being gently guided but with intent, I discovered things about myself, my influences and arts practice that I had not recognised or acknowledged to myself before. Amy Kennedy’s Fresh Eyes program has made me view everything about my arts practice with fresh eyes. I highly recommend this program to anyone who feels stuck, is at a turning point in their arts practice or simply needs ‘fresh eyes’.....do it, for you!
